Udaipur City Palace
Looking Through the Lens
Sindhu Murthy
The City Palace of Udaipur is actually a complex of many structures located on a hill right on the east banks of Lake Pichola. It was constructed over a time span of 400 years with contributions from several rulers of Mewar Dynasty. The pillars, cupolas, and towers in the palace are embellished with beautiful inlay work of gold, silver, glass, ivory and mirrors. Some of the major attractions you should not miss in the palace complex are the Mor-Chowk ( Peacock courtyard), Dilkush mahal, Sheesh mahal( palace of glass and mirrors), Moti Mahal ( palace of pearls), Badi mahal (the large palace) and the Crystal gallery. Take a visual tour of the magnificent palace through our photographs.
There are many more attractions in and around the Lake City of Udaipur worth visiting. Check out our itinerary for exploring Udaipur in 24 hours. Chittorgarh, Menal, Kumbhalgarh Fort, and Ranakpur are a few other interesting places you can explore on a day trip while you are in Udaipur.
Those are some lovely pictures. I have fond memories of Udaipur. Rajasthan is one of my favourite states of India. In fact, I find rural Rajasthan even more exciting than the urban Rajasthan. I have yet not been to Jaiselmer yet. Would love to go there some day.
Constructed over a time span of 400 years… that is incredible! It looks very impressive and I love your pictures!
I read your post on making the most of spending 24 hours in Udaipur and was impressed with how you managed to pull it off. Here, I’m impressed with the photos in particular! A nice stroll down memory lane for me; the palace at Udaipur is undeniably beautiful 🙂
Rajasthan has been on my list of travel for quite some time now. Only that the plans haven’t materialized so far due to some of the other reasons. You’ve shared some really beautifully captured travel photos. Very inviting. I just hope I’m able to visit these places soon.

Beautiful photos! Your article really brought memories from that place. I wasn’t as lucky with the weather as you though so need to come again 🙂
Went there a couple of months back..as you must be knowing by now 🙂 The one thing that I missed was the view of the palace at night. I wanted to stay back for it, but has a train to catch. Thank you for that last picture…that made up for what I missed
Wow your photos are quite beautiful. I wonder if they have problems with theft on the gold and silver on the pillars? In England they have had issues once in a while with theft of the churches people pinching metals to be sold, very sad.
What stunning images! I have never heard of this place before but after seeing these images its going on my list!
Wow the Palace looks incredible, these pictures are just beautiful! Added to the bucket list!
We have been to Udaipur a month ago and really loved it. The City Palace is really worth a visit and your pictures do them right. 🙂 It was nice to see them, they awoke nice memories.
You have taken real beautiful photos of the palace. I love the intricate design of the architecture, they are really impressive. Hope to see these in person someday.
The styles of the buildings look so consistent even though it was constructed over such a long period of time. It’s all so beautiful, but i wonder if there was a consistent theme or principle that was passed along from ruler to ruler?
Loving the shots you took of the palace. The place looks stunning that make me want to go there. This will definitely be on my bucket list.
The photos just really speak for itself cause it was captured stunningly. I like how you include the history of the place as it appears to be really interesting. This is really a must see place. I would love to visit this City Palace if given a chance soon.
I would love to walk around Udaipur City Palace and I wouldn’t mind being lost in the streets if the sights are as beautiful this…..and of course, I’ll be busy taking selfies :)))
Love all your pictures of Udaipur Cit Palace. It is unbelievable the construction time spans over 400 years, and it still preserves so well to this day. The view of the Lake Pichola from the palace is amazing as well!
