Fly back to the Royal Era
Hotel Shivavilas Palace, Sandur
Hotel Features:
The Palace centered in the 20acre area having 2 floors of about 20000 sq ft each houses two large suites – Maharaja Suite and Maharani Suite, a Regular Suite and 9 Deluxe rooms. The rooms are located around an endearing courtyard. The breath of fresh air in the balconies overlooking the gardens, the numerous books of all tastes in the common areas and in the library, and the most friendly staff greeting you with smiles make your time and stay lovely.
The indoor games like carrom, table tennis, billiards, chess, an offhand open area badminton and basketball, and refreshing treatments/massages at the in-house spa are also there to retreat oneself. We enjoyed our time taking the sights and sounds of the place with strolls in the garden and the poolside, early morning jogs, and bicycle rides. All these made our moments perfect and beautiful.
Other Amenities:
The Hotel services also include Board Room, Children Play Area in the indoor activity room, Party/banquet lawn, Billiards and Bar, barbeque area, Bird Watching, Two temples and Bhajan hall, Laundry Service, Doctor on Call, 24X7 Wi-fi, Covered car parking space, Hotel pick-up/drop and local transportation facility available on request. There are Vintage and Classic Car Museum and a Darbar Hall Museum.
Food and Dining:
The in-room dining served both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian food with relatively widespread continental cuisines. The delicious home-made food felt healthy, tasty, and balanced. Apart from the usual food counter, we enjoyed our dinners at the pool-side barbecue counter and the courtyard.

Tips:
- Sandur’s valleys and hills are at their best during the rainy season in the months of August-September.
- There are no good hotels and restaurants in Sandur. Shivavilas Palace of the Royal Gorpade family is one of its kind in the small town offering an exclusive royal stay without being over priced.
- One of the world famous UNESCO Heritage Sites, Hampi is ~45km from Sandur. Exploring the beauty of Hampi takes you at least 2 full days. So plan your stay accordingly.
- A visit to the Mines, Handicraft Centre, and the Ancient Temples takes 1 day.
The feeling of royalty and luxury offered at the Shivavilas Palace is incomparable. Retracing the steps of the royal family of Sandur and experiencing the grandiose, we made some noble moments. Special thanks to Mr.Sameer Ahmed Taj and Team for hosting and offering us a majestic experience.

Wow, it feels like if you stay here you can feel like the prince/princess of the old times during your stay. Thank you for sharing it with us.
This hotel-palace-looks and sounds amazing! It truly did sound like a royal experience; one worth the price I am sure. It’s so neat how they changed over the palace to an accommodation. I would love to see it in person and take a dip in that wonderful pool!
The rooms are spacious and make you feel that you are one of the royalties. I think this is something I’d want to experience at least once. It really looks luxurious and grand!
What a splendid hotel. Wow a real palace. We’d love to check out this place if we make it to Sandur. Thanks for the tip.
This is very cool! I would love to spend some time there! And I will if I ever find myself in this region! Thanks for sharing this beauty
The hotel really has the royal aura of the kingdoms of yore. I was not much aware of the royal lineage of Sandur. Great piece of information to know. The hotel holds the promise of a truly regal experience and you must have had a wonderful stay.
I am going to put this on my list of weekend getaways from bangalore. The hotel looks and sounds nothing less than a palace. I never knew it was so nearby..in Sandur. And there are so many things to do, particularly the ancient temples to explore near it. A must visit…
waaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww! with an hotel like this, I would not care too much about the unesco sites around! the pool is not original from the palace, right? i mean was it built for the hotel?
Staying in this hotel seems to really promise a royal experience. The property is vast and beautiful. I like that it is very accessible and that it is close to a number of sightseeing spots. Would definitely stay here if i happen to be in the area!
This is so ROYAL! Oozing with charm and luxury!
The interiors look grand and comfortable. I hope I can stay there some day.
I think a stay at The Shivavilas Palace would be as close to feeling like royalty or Michael Jackson as I could get! It would be the perfect base for visiting Hampi. Or the perfect place just to stay and live like a King!
