Fort Kochi is a melting pot of various cultures that were brought in as the Portuguese, Dutch and English merchants set foot on its land in search of the lucrative spice trade. Though the Fort no longer remains in Fort Kochi, the lavish mansions built by the explorers and merchants who made Kochi their home till India got its independence have remained as vestiges to the past glory of the town. The best way to experience the allure of Fort Kochi is by exploring it on foot.

As I savored each sip of Kahwa, I could taste the distinct flavors of the different spices in it. The sweetness of the cardamon and cinnamon greatly complemented the mild pungent flavor of saffron and the bitter flavor of the green tea leaves while the nutty flavor imparted by the chunks of almonds blended well with the honey to make it taste like nectar on every sip.

Thinnakara island is one of the two uninhabited island of Lakshadweep where tourists are allowed to stay. The coral islands of Lakshadweep being very fragile and ecologically sensitive, the government takes utmost care in restricting entry to the islands through a permit thus exercising a control on the depletion of available resources. The only means of approach to Thinnakara is through a ferry boat which is carefully waded through the lagoon before the tide ebbs to avoid damage to corals.
