Ladakh Himalayan Retreat: Best Place to Stay and Explore Leh
We recently came back from Ladakh with a big bundle of pleasant and beautiful memories to cherish from the region. Our stay in this hotel made them even more beautiful.
Leh-Ladakh remains a feat for travellers and tourists alike. It’s tough terrains, rough weather and lack of on-the-way facilities make the challenge seem so huge. But thanks to the Hotel Ladakh Himalayan Retreat, travellers can now explore this heaven while enjoying the best of comforts and luxury. Camps being the only option to stay as you drive far from Leh, this hotel is one of the best comfortable accommodations while you are in Leh.
The Shanti Stupa as seen from the hotel
The hotel is located away from the busy streets yet not so far from the market. The Leh main market would be approximately 1 km from here. While you walk from the market, you should descend 700-800 meters along the Fort road to reach the hotel. As you walk you can spot the best view of the hotel surrounded by snow capped mountains and magnificent views of Shanti Stupa and Stok Kangri in the background.
Traditional Buddhist Architecture for the Hotel
The hotel building is constructed with a traditional architecture with heavily designed wooden blocks sitting above the window panes. The interiors are elegant with authentic Buddhist paintings and artifacts. The lush green lawn with an adjoining garden is best to spend an evening watching the Stok ranges with a cup of Kashmiri Kawa in your hand. The hotel also has a souvenir shop with a very good collection of silk, pashmina and cotton textiles.
Interior of the hotel is very intricately designed with a traditional touch of local culture and beliefs. The dining hall and lounges with books and magazines and a small library are available for guests. Carrom board is available on 1st floor. It’s a bliss to watch the mountains through all the windows in the rooms and corridors.
The room and the view from balcony
While at the hotel, you should definitely try the local food preparations like Thenthuk – a hand pulled noodle soup prepared in the Tibetian style and Thupka – a noodle soup with dough dumplings, mixed vegetables and meat (optional). These food varieties might not taste as delicious when you have them in the local stalls in Leh markets and other places. Also a special mention of the drink, Khawa tea. This mild and refreshing tea is made by brewing tea leaves with chosen spices, saffron, and few dry fruits. You can have as many cups of it without having a heavy feeling in your tummy.

Most of all it is the feeling that one is cared for and valued that sets the Ladakh Himalayan Retreat apart from other similar hotels. Ladakh is an arduous and a challenging destination. Ladakh Himalayan Retreat helps you cope and recover to enjoy your holiday. Highly recommended !!!!

Wow, this looks like the perfect base to explore Ladakh. Didn’t think there were options like this in Ladakh and was expecting mostly campsites or homestays. Will keep in mind when we plan our maiden Ladakh Trip.
Wow this is a wonderful review of a beautiful destination! Thanks for the travel tips. I am planning a trip to ladakh in october, would keep your points of reference in mind!
Ladakh Himalayan Retreat looks like a beautiful place to visit. nice to see they have alot to offer all types of travelers 🙂
This looks like a really special retreat! I can’t believe how many options there are for day trips and activities, I bet white water rafting is a thrill here. It sounds like you truly appreciated the little touches of hospitality and warmth in Leh and Ladakh.
The views are stunning … Ladakh sure is beautiful. Glad the Mr Sonam treated u like family … service elevates the experience so much. I am planning Ladakh for next month and this sure is a useful post.
I would love to visit the Himalaya and the retreat seems like a great spot! 🙂 And the food.. it looks super delicious and I would love to try each of it 🙂
Hotel Ladakh Himalayan Retreat sounds like a great place to stay! I also prefer hotels with friendly and accommodating personnel. You seemed like you enjoyed it! Great review!
Hotel Ladakh Himalayan Resort looks like a fantastic place to stay in Ladakh. The pristine landscapes of Ladakh are indeed a treat for the senses and a good and comfortable hotel to get back to in the evening after hectic exploring is a must and this hotel looks like a home away from home.
Wow this looks like the perfect place to stay in Ladakah. There are so many options for activities that I would love to explore one day. I love your pictures, the views are absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this place with us.
The view from the bedroom window is surreal. Being close to nature is such a big part of staying in Ladakh and this hotel does fulfil that requirement very well.
This place looks great! Both the Leh area and the hotel. It’s often hard to find well-equipped hotels in the remote places of the world, but you seem to have found a great one. All of your tips would be helpful as well, knowing how tours, taxis, restaurants, and other local activities are booked is really important before heading out, otherwise, people sometimes miss out on what they really want to see! Glad the owner was so helpful, that is always a treat! Thanks for sharing – I hadn’t even heard of Leh before reading this post, though I have always wanted to visit the Himalayas – now I know one spot I will have to visit 🙂
Ladakh Himalyan Retreat looks like an amazing place to stay. Good to know that they can help plan itinerary and also assist with local cab arrangement as well. The food looks really appetizing and it does check all the boxes for me, especially since I travel mostly with family. Thanks for the review.
Wow this stay in Ladakh with personal touch of Mr. Sonam is great. Also he arranges local transportation which is very good as in remote place to find transport is a big task. I love the view of hills from room. I will save Ladakh Himalayan Retreat option for staying for my future visit.
This is a great place! Maybe I’ll get to visit this place if I ever decide to climb Mt. Everest 😛 hehe.
Hotel Ladakh Himalayan Retreat does look like a nice place to stay. I’m sure guests feel very comfortable, especially with Mr. Sonam. The food looks great and I definitely would enjoy the landscape and visiting the monastery!
Thanks for this suggestion. I got back from Leh just last week and I hope to go again – though this time with family. This place looks cozy enough for them given its facilities. Will make a note of the same.
This looks like an ideal place to stay in Leh. The rooms look gorgeous and inviting. I loved eating Tibetan food during my trip to Himachal last month. Definitely, will keep this in mind when I visit.
Such a lot of beautiful place to see…. I hope I get there some day!
The resort looks great. I will definitely consider it as stay option when I get there.
I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about Ladakh which makes me want to put in my bucket list. The place is stunning filled with mountain ranges and snow-capped summits. The hotel on the other hand looks fantastic and cozy. I love a hotel room with balcony which will let you view the beautiful panorama whenever you want to. Nice photographs by the way 🙂
Looks like a beautiful place. The first time I went to Ladakh last year, we decided to camp out in tents. May be next time I visit, will stay at this place 🙂
Wow this is the 2nd blog I read about Ladakh. Must be a place really worth visiting. At first when I saw the title “Himalayan Retreat” i got sold already..all the photos are very inviting, cant wait to go here someday
I’d never heard of Ladakh before now, but your post certainly won me over. The retreat sounds like a total dream. Not only because of the food (but as a foodie, I’m totally drooling), but also because of the charm and character (and color) in every room! I would love to hang out there, go on a trekking expedition, and just breathe in the peace and unique details. Sounds like a lovely way to spend a few days, for sure.
The place is so beautiful and fits the location! We really can’t wait to plan a trip around there an hopefully check out this retreat when we are there!
The Hotel Ladakh Himalayan Retreat looks like a wonderful resort to stay at in such a beautiful location. Leh-Ladakh looks like such a beautiful destination surrounded by snow capped mountains. You’ve photographed the food so well, it looks delicious.

After visiting Ladakh over six times, it’s like my second home. I have never stayed in Ladakh Himalayan Retreat but it does look very warm and comfortable. Would love to check it next time.
Looks like this place is destination in itself
views are surreal and best place to unwind
your suggestion of this place is useful, will sure try this hotel when will be there during my trip
Such a lovely property. I could laze here all day. I prefer staying in properties which are secluded and yet near the places of action, Leh market in this case. Leh market is so vibrant what with cafes, shops and stores which fill the streets.
